This highly specialized Dual Career Ladder (DCL) position utilizes technical skills and the application of engineering design principles along with other technical expertise in the design and review of plans and specifications in accordance with regulatory codes for drinking water, waste water, and public swimming pools.  This is engineering work that involves the on-site inspection and evaluation of existing drinking water system, wastewater system, and public swimming pool infrastructure and the review of plans and specifications of said infrastructure for repair, replacement or modification feasibility and code conformance. Work involves the application of administrative and engineering skills, knowledge, and abilities.

Job Duties:

  • Analyze/implement environmental activities needed within the complete scope of public health engineering activities for the district
  • Conducts surveys and evaluations of water and wastewater facilities using specialized public health engineering expertise to ensure protection of the public health and compliance with Federal and State Laws and regulations, namely, the State Sanitary Code.
  • Performs the review and approval of highly technical engineering plans and specifications for proposed water and wastewater facilities, and public swimming pools, water parks, and spray parks submitted by engineers and architects, as required by the State Sanitary Code and other local, state and federal laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Monitors the interpretation of chemical and bacteriological analytical data, the evaluation of public health risks associated with the analysis results, and the recommendations of treatment practices or processes to achieve compliance with relevant Safe Drinking Water Rules, such as Phase I, II, and V Rules; the Lead/Copper Rule; the Revised Total Coliform Rule, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

 

Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering plus one of the following:

Two years of licensed engineering experience; or

Six years of professional engineering experience.
